I had one on my ST for a short time. A very nicely built part with a lot of quality.

However, definitely not cheap which is my middle name.

I decided to mod a Vista Cruise throttle lock instead as that was much cheaper.

One issue with the Breakaway is it's got some internal notches that it grabs to hold the throttle so if you are on either side of those notches/gears whatever you call them, you might be going a hair faster or slower than you intended. The vista cruise just grabs the throttle sleeve at it's current location so it's set where you want it.

Hope that helps.

It does. I bought a Vista Cruise and tried to mod it, but it kept grabbing the throttle when not engaged. I can't seem to get it thin enough.

Which vista cruise did you get... I'm thinking it was the yamaha one... I only had to dremel out just a tad off the inside diameter but I don't know if the ST and NT bars are similar.

I got the Honda one. I had to grind down the side to get it to fit in place. I also had to replace the lower plastic "bolt" with a metal bolt with a smaller head I had in my junk bin, as the old one interfered with the start button.

On my ST, I did the similar grinding of the tab. I then just epoxy'd it to the switch housing. I did make sure I didn't epoxy it in place with it in the lock position, but in the unlock / loose position so that it wouldn't put pressure on the throttle sleeve.

Armando, do you have the HL heated grips? I read somewhere that if you do, unless you go via the electronic CC routes, you're limited to just a handful. One of them is the throttlemeister - there is a specific version - for the heated grips. Ron

No, I have the stock grips. I'm on the fence about the heated grips. To be honest I didn't put a lot of time into it as I had just gotten the bike and was more interested in riding off the break in. Now that I'm done for the season, I'll take a another swing at it.

On my ST I have the symtec grip heaters and that works okay w/vista cruise. Not sure how / if those HL grips would make it tougher, but sure seems like they would.

Yeah, I just can't for the life of me remember where I read about the HL grips and issues with some of the brands.

Armando,

I've got the Throttlemeister for the Hondaline Heated Grips, and have been very pleased with it (other than an occasional need to retighten the bolt that holds it on and Cindi K has told me that the instructions said to use Loctite...which I didn't do).

The NT is less frustrating to have a throttle-lock-style cruise control on than my previous Concours C-10s were. The speed varied a lot uphill and down on the Connies, but on the NT, for some reason, it holds pretty steady. Oh, there's some speeding up and slowing down, but not a whole lot.

I had an Audiovox electronic cruise on the Connies (I even have a brand-new one in the box, but I'm not about to be the guy who pioneers that installation. There is an electronic cruise control from Australia that is plug-and-play, but the last time I checked, it was something like $980 of American money. Too rich for my blood!

Oh I've seen that unit, Phil. For that amount of money, it will have to remain "motorcycle porn". Just something drool over but never touch.

Some years back, okay, quite a few years ago I had a throttle lock on one of my honda's. It was simple, re-enforced black plastic of some type and fit between the grip and control modual. You pressed down a small lever and it "locked" the throttle in position. You could flick it off with your thumb and if necessary throttle down the grip. It seems to me it was very inexpensive but I can't find one today. Any thoughts?

Vista-Cruise is the brand of the throttle lock you're describing. They worked pretty good on my Concours...but not as good as the Audiovox electronic cruise control.

A lot of dealers carry them. You may have to trim a tab and glue the fixed part of the lock to your rightside switchgear.
